High fructose Corn Syrup

Steadily I have tried to feed myself and my family with "healthy food". Now I know that if you make too much of a change it is harder to stick to it, so we have made slow changes over time. We switched from white flour, to unbleached flour and finally made the plunge into Whole Wheat Flower (it has not affected any baking and I have heard no complaints) We also made the switch to Brown rice, and then whole wheat pasta and we try to limit our sugar intake...try being the operative word, I LOVE ice cream. But as I was sitting at lunch feeling guilty about giving my kid a bag of chips I realized how many ingredients were in that bag of chips...it was disgusting and eye opening, and there was MSG which I just assumed wasn't in our diet. Now I know and I am sure there is no more MSG in our house, but I realized that we really should be eating foods with the least amount of ingredients and then I realized how much high fructose corn syrup was in our food. So I have gone on a mission to eliminate HFCS, it is easier than I thought. First there are the obvious foods that it is in, sugary food and juices, but there are a lot of foods you wouldn't think of...whole wheat bread (some brands), sauces, supposedly "healthy" cereal etc... So now it makes grocery shopping a little more of a "treasure" hunt along with trying to save money too. And I hope to keep my family healthy :-)
FYI here is one site I found with a list of non-HFCS www.accidentalhedonist.com

Nice to know that while not the quickest study, you are still able to learn. :D Guess who??

We've done the same things! I love Trader Joe's for snack food because I don't have to spend hours reading labels in the store with a 2 year old.

Isn't it scary how much garbage is in food these days? It's hard to keep on top of it. Now I'm even starting to look at reducing the amount of gluten from my diet, because I feel so much better without it!
